Mentorship of the Month: Shaker Ezaizat and Dr. Ryan Baggett
Mr. Shaker Ezaizat was the winner of the oral presentation portion of the 5th Annual Homeland Security Research Showcase. Mr. Shaker S. Ezaizat, is a senior Homeland Security major from Garrard, Kentucky. Shaker’s presentation was entitled, “The Use of Social Media during Disasters: Shifting Paradigms for Disaster Planning and Response”, based on his research from the HLS 441 course, “Homeland Security Technology”. In addition to his Homeland Security major, he is pursuing a university certificate in Security Management and a minor in disaster management. Mr. Ezaizat primary mentor was Dr. Ryan Baggett. Dr. Baggett is an associate professor of Homeland Security and is the Coordinator of the Homeland Security Program within the School of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management at EKU.
This was Mr. Ezaizat’s first time ever presenting outside a classroom setting. According to Mr. Ezaizat. Dr. Baggett provided him with useful tools and information regarding his presentation, the design, how it should be laid out, and what my strong/key talking points were.
The following was provided by Mr. Ezaizat; “Dr. Baggett is a tremendous public speaker and I took note on how he is able to communicate with the audience so it would allow me to be more comfortable and relaxed while presenting. He is a great mentor and professor to not only myself but for all the students at the Homeland Security program.”
